(Amsterdam)- Former Rakuten Eagles (2012-2014) and Hanshin Tigers (2007-2011) pitcher Keiji Uezono has been added to the Amsterdam Baseball roster and will arrive in the Netherlands on May 12. Keiji has played with the Sydney Blue Sox in the Australian Baseball League in 2015-2016 so this summer a third continent will be added to his portfolio.
Keiji Uezono was born on June 30, 1984 in Fukuoka, Japan and made his NPB debut in 2007 for the Hanshin Tigers posting a 2.42 ERA over 85.2 innings with 83 K’s. With Rakuten Eagles he played together with Masahiro Tanaka, currently the No.1 starter for the New York Yankees. Nearing the end of his active career, he went to Sydney to pitch for the Blue Sox as a reliever where he posted a 1,93 ERA over 9.1 innings with 14K’s and allowing only 1 walk on 36 batters faced.
Keiji Uezono will be working in the Netherlands as a recruiter/coach for Collegiate Baseball League Europe (CBLE) during his 4-month stay to help the CBLE organisation by coaching one of its teams, run youth clinics and grow awareness for the league among Asian college players.
He wants to improve his English communication skills and his international knowledge of the game to become an international recruiter for Japanese teams after his retirement as a player.
With Keiji Uezono Amsterdam boosts its already strong pitching staff while creating a great opportunity to reach out to the Japanese community in Amsterdam.
Keiji will also play for Oosterhout Twins in the Dutch Hoofdklasse (Dutch Major League)
On May 15 at 6.00 PM, Amsterdam will play its first Euro League Baseball game at Ookmeer Ballpark in Amsterdam.
