In a best of five series, where the score was tied at one game each, Buchbinder Legionäre’s Mike Bolsenbroek shut out the current German champion Solingen Alligators today.
In nine innings Bolsenbroek gave up six hits, two walks and fanned six. His oppenent, Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez, pitched seven innings and gave up two runs (none earned) on six hits. He gave up one walk less than Bolsenbroek and struck out as many.
The two runs that the Buchbinder Legionäre from Regensburg scored, came in the fourth inning when Dustin Hughes committed an error that allowed former AAA player Kai Gronauer to score the opening run. In the same inning, Pascal Amon scored the second run when he stole home plate.
So far this season, Mike Bolsenbroek is the undisputed ace of the Euro League Baseball member. In twelve games (76.2 innings) he struck out 88 and posted a South division leading 2.23 ERA and a WHIP of 1.00.
The other ELB member, Bonn Capitals fell to the Heidenheim Heideköpfe today.
Starting pitcher, Peter Sykaras, went all the way for Heidenheim. In nine innings he was flat out dominant. He gave up only five hits, walked one and fanned fifteen (!). Maurice Wilhelm took the loss for Bonn. In six innings he gave up three runs (two earned) on nine hits.
Both Regensburg and Heidenheim are one win away from clinching a spot in the German championship series. If they do so, it will be an all South division series.
