Regensburg strikes back in second game

Buchbinder Legionäre  3   –   1  Draci Brno

The second game between Draci Brno and Regensburg Legionäre, was a close one again. Only in the fourth  inning the opening run was scored. This game had various faces. The quick one as it took a little bit more than an hour to play the first four innings and the slow one as it took more than an hour to finish the next three.

In the second inning, Regensburg had the chance to break open the game, when it had runners on the corners with two outs, but with Marcel Jimenez caught stealing second base, Regensburg could not cash in.

But in the aforementioned fourth inning, Brno showed how small ball has to be played when Martin Schneider singled, stole second base and then third base and Tomas Polansky hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Schneider to score the opening run.

After Elias von Garssen drew a walk, David Dinski grounded into a 4-6 force out on which Elias von Garssen was put out at second. But then Marcel Jimenez singled to right field and Dinski advanced to third on the play. Eventually Jimenez scored the tying run on the sacrifice fly hit by Alexander Schmidt. Lukas Jahn drew a walk to put runners on first and second to keep the pressure on relief pitcher Jan Vasourek, but Regensburg could not cash in again as Nino Casaca flied out to center field for the third out.

In the top of the seventh inning, Michal Sobotka replaced Jan Vasourek on the mound.  With two outs, Marcel Jimenez hit to third base as third baseman Premek Chroust committed an error. With Alexander Schmidt at bat, Jimenez stole second base which proved to be unnecessary as Alexander Schmidt drew a five pitch walk to put runners on first and second. Then lefty Lukas Jahn hit an opposite field single on a fly ball, that drove in Marcel Jimenez for the go-ahead run. Nino Sacasa also came through with a single up the middle that drove in Alexander Schmidt for the unearned run. Lukas Jahn tried to reach third base on the throw to home plate but was thrown out 8-2-5.

Gabriel Camino replaced Daniel Mendelsohn on the mound for Regensburg. Camino started well by striking out Tomas Polansky but then walked Pavel Budsky on four pitches and gave up a single to Karel Hrusovsky that made Polansky advance to third base. Anothr walk given up to Alexander Derhak, loaded the bases with only one out. But Draci Brno lacked the clutch hitter in this inning as Jakub Hajtmar hit into a 5-2 force out and Adam Hajtmar grounded out to first base for the final out of the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Jan Tomek replaced Gabriel Camino and started the inning with giving up a walk to Premek Chroust and hitting Martin Schneider with a pitch. But he recovered well when Petr Cech hit into a 6-3 double play. With Premek Chroust at third base, Tomek gave up a walk to Jason Jarvis to put runners on the corners but eventually struck out Michael Kremlacek for the final out of the inning.

Michal Sobotka kept Regensburg from scoring in the top of the ninth inning to keep Draci Brno in the game. But Jan Tomek retired the side for the save and the first win for Regensburg in this inaugural ELB season.

Gabriel Camino earned the win after only 0.1 inning in relief. He gave up one run on two hits and retired two hitters on strikes.
Despite a decent outing in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning, Michal Sobotka took the loss after he gave up two runs on three hits in three innings of work. He walked one and struck out three.

Lukas Jahn and Marcel Jimenez both went 1 for 3 for the Legionäre. Jahn drove in a run as Jimenez scored one.
